- Twickenham has officially been called Allianz Stadium since September 2024. Both names refer to the same venue.
- Getting a face-value Six Nations ticket for England home matches can be extremely difficult. As at 22 September 2026, no general public sale had been announced for 2027.
- At least 50% of tickets are allocated to RFU-affiliated clubs under the union’s rules.
- Official 2027 hospitality packages were listed at £549–£1,549 per person including VAT, depending on the fixture and package.
- Official mobile tickets are delivered through the Allianz Stadium app. Treat emailed PDFs offered by private sellers with caution.
- Twickenham railway station is roughly a 10-minute walk away, with trains from London Waterloo. Drivers should check the ULEZ and matchday restrictions.
For an England home match in the Six Nations, planning a London rugby weekend starts with one decision: how will you get a valid match ticket? Accommodation, transport and sightseeing can usually be arranged more easily. This guide explains the RFU’s ticket allocation system, published hospitality prices, rail routes to Twickenham, where to stay and what to expect on matchday. Twickenham or Allianz Stadium? Understanding the two names
They are the same stadium. The Rugby Football Union announced the naming-rights agreement in 2024, and the name Allianz Stadium took effect in September that year. It was the ground’s first name change since it opened in 1907.
In everyday conversation, people still say Twickenham — or “Twickers”. The railway station and neighbourhood are also called Twickenham, while the official venue uses “Allianz Stadium Twickenham”. Both names on tickets, directions or accommodation listings refer to the same place.
Address:
Allianz Stadium, 200 Whitton Road, Twickenham TW2 7BA.
The value of the naming-rights deal has been discussed in the UK press, but the RFU did not publish a confirmed figure. We therefore do not quote one here.
The big question: how do you actually get England Six Nations tickets?
For England supporters, tickets are often the hardest part of arranging a Six Nations weekend. RFU-affiliated clubs receive a major allocation and members and other priority groups may be offered access before any public release. As at 22 September 2026, no general public sale had been announced for England’s three 2027 home fixtures. A general sale should never be assumed.
The ticket routes worth checking
- RFU-affiliated rugby clubs: club allocations are a key route for eligible members; ask your club how it distributes its tickets.
- RFU membership and priority schemes: check eligibility, application windows and any ballot requirements directly with England Rugby.
- Debenture holders: relevant ticket rights may apply to existing debenture holders, subject to their terms.
- England Rugby Hospitality: official premium packages include a match ticket and specified hospitality services.
- England Rugby Travel: official travel packages may include a match ticket and accommodation or other services.
- Official Ticket Exchange: check the RFU-approved resale route for tickets returned by eligible holders, subject to availability.
For an overview of the six unions’ different ticketing arrangements, consult our existing Six Nations ticketing information guide. Avoid paying a private seller for a PDF or screenshot; official ticket delivery is mobile-first.
England Rugby hospitality: published 2027 prices
England offers a range of official matchday hospitality packages. The following figures were displayed for the three 2027 home matches at the time of the original review. They are per person, including VAT; availability and inclusions must be checked again before purchase.
| Hospitality package | Location | vs France · 14 Feb | vs Italy · 20 Feb | vs Scotland · 13 Mar |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| British Airways Rose Garden | East Stand, upper tier | £849 | £549 | £899 |
| Allianz Suite | South Stand, middle tier | £899 | Not listed | £949 |
| Private Suites | North Stand | £999 | £599 | £1,199 |
| The Lock by Tom Kerridge | North-east / south-east corner areas | £1,199 | £699 | £1,349 |
| The Gate | East Stand, lower tier | £1,299 | £749 | £1,449 |
| The East Wing | East Stand, premium middle tier | £1,399 | £599* | £1,549 |
*The East Wing offer for England v Italy was marketed under a different package designation. Listed prices were checked on 22 September 2026 and are not live quotations.
What the table tells you
A package that looks similar can cost considerably more for England v Scotland than for England v Italy. Compare the precise lounge, seat location, food and drink inclusions, VAT and cancellation terms — not just the word “VIP”.
Travelling to Twickenham from across the UK
For visitors already in Britain, rail is usually the most practical way to reach the stadium. If you are travelling from Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol or elsewhere, plan the journey into London first, then allow time for the local rail connection. London Waterloo is the main departure point for trains to Twickenham. Check your actual service and engineering works before travelling.
Stations and walking times
| Station or stop | Approximate walk to the stadium |
|---|---|
| Twickenham railway station | 10 minutes |
| Whitton railway station | 20 minutes |
| Hounslow railway station | 30 minutes |
| Hounslow East Underground | 30 minutes |
| Richmond railway / Underground station | 45 minutes |
| Bus routes 281, 481 and 681 | Around 1 minute |
| Bus H20 | Around 5 minutes |
| Bus 267 | Around 8 minutes |
| Other nearby bus stops | Around 10–15 minutes |
Twickenham station is served from London Waterloo and is normally the clearest rail option for matchgoers. Expect heavy queues after the final whistle. Buses can be diverted because of event-related road closures, so do not assume they will use their normal stops.
Practical tip
Check your return train options before kick-off, but avoid relying on a tight connection immediately after the match. The walk and queues are part of the matchday journey.
Driving: parking, road closures and the ULEZ
- Matchday parking is limited and generally needs to be booked in advance through the authorised stadium arrangements.
- Road closures and traffic management can affect the surrounding area and local bus routes.
- London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) covers Twickenham. Check whether your vehicle meets the rules and whether a daily charge applies, including if it has a non-UK registration.
The stadium has also identified the Continental Tyres Rosebine Car Park as an option within walking distance. Accessible-parking arrangements and concessions should be confirmed directly with the venue. Cycle parking is available near the south-east corner.
Where to stay: Twickenham, Richmond or central London
Unlike Cardiff, where the stadium is beside the city centre, Twickenham sits in south-west London. Your hotel location affects how much of the weekend you spend on trains.
| Area | Advantages | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Twickenham | Walk to the stadium; easiest after the match | Limited accommodation, high demand on match weekends |
| Richmond | Riverside pubs, restaurants and easy access towards Twickenham | You still need a train, bus or a longer walk |
| Central London | More hotels and attractions; ideal for a city break | Allow a separate journey to and from the stadium |
For a rugby-focused overnight trip, Twickenham or Richmond can make sense. If you want museums, theatre or sightseeing as well, central London offers more choice. Whichever you choose, check the nearest station and connections towards Twickenham rather than relying on a hotel’s claim to be “near the stadium”.
Common mistake
Two hotels a few miles apart in west London can have very different public-transport journeys. Check the actual route from hotel to stadium before booking.
Matchday: getting in and stadium rules
Bags: A4 size and conflicting luggage-storage advice
The standard stadium guidance requires bags to be no larger than A4 and small enough to fit safely beneath your seat. Bags are searched on entry; medical essentials may be considered separately after inspection. You should not normally have to remove your shoes or belt during checks.
Two official sources reviewed in September 2026 gave different advice about luggage storage: the RFU help centre said no bag-drop facility was available, while a stadium FAQ referred to paid storage at Webb Ellis House. Do not make your plans depend on storage being available. Travel with an A4-sized bag or no bag and confirm arrangements for your particular fixture.
Bag policy compared across four Six Nations venues
| Stadium | Maximum bag size | Left-luggage facility |
|---|---|---|
| Principality Stadium, Cardiff | 35 × 40 × 19 cm | None advertised |
| Scottish Gas Murrayfield, Edinburgh | A4 | None advertised |
| Aviva Stadium, Dublin | 297 × 210 × 210 mm; one bag | None advertised |
| Allianz Stadium, Twickenham | A4 | Official sources differed at last check |
If you regularly travel to Six Nations matches, a small A4-sized bag is the safest general choice. Always check each venue’s current rules.
Other important stadium rules
- No smoking or vaping: restrictions apply within the stadium perimeter; follow the designated exit and re-entry rules if applicable.
- Alcohol-free seating areas: check the conditions of the category you book.
- Card payments: food and drink outlets are generally cashless; bring a working card or contactless payment method.
- Pushchairs: restrictions apply. Check the latest infant and child ticket rules directly with the stadium.
- Outside food and drinks: restrictions apply; free tap water was available at designated locations at the time of the original review.
- Medication: keep it in original packaging where possible and bring supporting medical documentation if relevant.
The 2027 stadium gate-opening times had not yet been confirmed when the French article was researched. Check your ticket in the Allianz Stadium app and allow extra time for security, especially if you are visiting fan areas.
Where to go for a pre-match pint
- The Cabbage Patch: next to Twickenham station, a matchday classic. Arrive well before kick-off.
- Barmy Arms: a Thames-side pub, around a 25-minute walk from the stadium, usually lively on rugby days.
- The Sussex Arms: a slightly quieter alternative away from the busiest station crowds.
- William Webb Ellis: a centrally located Twickenham pub with screens, useful if you are watching rather than attending.
After the match and the following day
The main post-match bottleneck is the flow of supporters heading back towards Twickenham station. Avoid planning a precise departure within the first hour after the final whistle: queues, crowd management and train loading can make journey times unpredictable.
- For the 2027 England home games, the original guide recorded kick-offs at 3.10pm, 4.40pm and 4.40pm local time, so expect some journeys back after dark.
- Allowing the first wave of crowds to disperse can be more comfortable than immediately joining the station queue.
- If staying overnight, choose a sensible departure time the next day rather than turning your Sunday into another race across London.
Sunday around Richmond
Richmond Park, Richmond Hill and the Thames towpath between Richmond and Twickenham offer a pleasant, largely free way to spend a Sunday after the match. Rugby enthusiasts can also check the World Rugby Museum and stadium-tour timetable, subject to availability.
Frequently asked questions
Are Twickenham Stadium and Allianz Stadium the same venue?
Yes. The stadium adopted the Allianz Stadium name in September 2024. Twickenham remains widely used by supporters and is still the name of the railway station and surrounding area.
Will there be a public sale for England’s 2027 Six Nations home matches?
No general public sale had been announced as at 22 September 2026. RFU-affiliated clubs receive a significant allocation, with other priority channels applying. Check England Rugby for any later announcements.
How can I buy England Six Nations tickets without a club allocation?
Check official hospitality, England Rugby Travel and any authorised Ticket Exchange availability. Do not assume a private resale listing is authorised.
How much did official Twickenham hospitality cost for 2027?
The prices published at the time of the original research ranged from £549 to £1,549 per person including VAT, depending on the match and package. Recheck current availability and inclusions.
How are Allianz Stadium mobile tickets delivered?
Official tickets are provided through the Allianz Stadium app. A standalone PDF supplied by an unknown private seller should not be treated as equivalent to a genuine app transfer.
How big can my bag be at Twickenham?
The standard policy limits bags to A4 size and requires them to fit beneath a seat. As official guidance about bag storage differed when checked, do not rely on a left-luggage service.
How far is Twickenham station from Allianz Stadium?
Approximately 10 minutes on foot. Whitton is about 20 minutes away; trains to Twickenham operate from London Waterloo.
Is Allianz Stadium cashless?
Food and drink points generally take card or contactless payments. Carry a working payment card and check the current matchday advice.
Can I drive to Twickenham on matchday?
Yes, but parking normally requires advance booking, roads may be closed and the London ULEZ may apply to your vehicle. Public transport is often easier.
When do the stadium gates open?
The 2027 times were still to be confirmed at the original September 2026 check. Follow the information shown on your match ticket and in official stadium communications.
